About Glossiness of Enamel Coating

Glossiness is a very important aspect of enamel coating. For enamel frit manufacturer or enamelware buyer, people all care about the glossiness of enamel surface. So, how to control the glossiness of enamel coating? And what factors can really make the difference? Experts from Nolifrit will answer for you:

The glossiness of a item is mainly caused by its specular reflection. The glossiness of enamel is the specular reflection ability of enamel surface. It’s mainly determined by the surface status of enamel coating. Including the chemical compositions, surface tension, viscosity, firing process etc...

Glossy Enamel on Steel Plate

As a enamel frit factory, we clearly know that K2O, Li2O, SrO, TiO2, B2O3, BaO are all good to increase the glossiness of enamel. While Na2O, CaO, MgO, Al2O3 will decrease the glossiness of enamel surface. For the chemical composition’s influence on the glossiness of enamel, we can conclude: Whatever reduce the enamel surface tension and viscosity, it’s good to increase the enamel surface glossiness. And vice versa. And in certain range, TiO2 will increase the enamel glossiness, but wont keep increasing when reached its limit. On the other hand, Anatase TiO2 is better to increase enamel glossiness than Rutile TiO2.

Hunan Noli Enamel Co., Ltd also know that enamel glossiness can be improved by controlling the enamel firing process. If not fully fired or excessive fired will both cause bad glossiness of enamelware. When firing, the type, size, amount and irregularity degree of crystals that opacifier separated out will affect the glossiness of enamelware. If the crystals size differs greatly or too thick, it will make enamelware low glossiness. If the crystals is fine and equally distributed, the enamel glossiness will be high.
